Question by MARSHALL: What do you think it will take for Derek Jeter to stay with the Yankees after next season expires?
Do you think another huge contract is the only way to keep him? I’ve read about how some people are pushing to name a new bridge after him, but I don’t think Jeter will care about that.

Best answer:

Answer by Anthony E
It won’t take much. Jeter is a lifelong Yankee for sure. There’s no way the Yankees or Jeter would ever think that he won’t stay with them for his entire career.

Question by patrickgardner1: derek jeter?
do u think he is the best shortstop in the history of the game? i say hell yes

Best answer:

Answer by jreb64
Not even close. Arod was better before he moved to third.

You probably need to quantify if you mean hitting, fielding or a combination. He is not even top 20 in fielding.

Some names that quickly come to mind are Honus Wagner, Lou Boudreau, Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken, Luis Apparicio.

Jeter is a wonderful person and a very grand SS. Very Likely a HOFer.

Stanchak Defines Media Convergence

Hackensack, NJ (PRWEB) January 10, 2006

Scott Stanchak has had a desire to work in television and radio ever since he was a child. It wasn’t until 2000, however, that his career started to take shape.

In May of that year, Scott began working for the Hunterdon Democrat newspaper as a reporter assigned to cover the Somerset Patriots, a baseball team that plays in the independent Atlantic League. While he was only supposed to write four pieces for the paper that summer, the editors saw talent in Scott and he went on to pen nine that season; starting in 2001, he began contributing weekly.

Also in 2000, Scott went to an on-air tryout for MTV. During the audition, producers praised Scott for his outgoing personality and the next day, Scott received numerous calls from the show’s staff; however, due to previous engagements, he was unable to work on the program. Their positive reaction to his persona was one of the biggest encouragements to why he wants to work in the entertainment industry.

While sports and entertainment were always Scott’s passions, he also began writing for the Hunterdon Today Newsletter in 2001 to get more experience. Scott’s job was to interview local business owners and write about how they got started. The newsletter lasted about a year and Scott now felt he could handle several different writing genres.

Scott continued writing for the Democrat, contributing weekly columns and occasional entertainment pieces. Prior to the 2003 season, he was also offered the opportunity to cover the Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, for the paper, as well. He was officially their “Minor League Baseball Reporter” and things were on the up for this then 21-year-old.

Also in 2003, Scott began writing three articles a week for the paper – one Patriots notebook, one Thunder notebook and a feature article. The pieces were some of the most praised inside the sports section and he began receiving emails from readers on a constant basis.

The editors of The Reporter newspaper, based in Somerset, NJ, in January, soon noticed Scott’s Patriots and Atlantic League coverage. They wanted Scott to be their exclusive beat reporter to cover the team and he ended up contributing many articles to the paper, including writing more than half of their eight-page, award-winning Somerset Patriots preview.

Scott began attending Ramapo College of New Jersey in the fall of that year, presenting an outstanding opportunity for himself to now showcase his radio and television skills. The school had studios for both and they were very accommodating to him.

In December, Scott taped the first episode of “The Scott Stanchak TV Reality,” a late-night-talk-show-type show. He also was hosting a weekly radio show, which went on to win three awards, including “Best Formatted Show,” “Best New D.J,” and “Best Show Web Site.”

During his two years at the school, Scott hosted 15 episodes of the TV show, not including a live election night special and a live audience show — both of which were firsts in school history. He also continued his award-winning radio show and contributed columns to the school’s paper, The Ramapo News.

In November of 2004, Scott began hosting his own sports talk radio show on WDVR 89.7 FM, located in Sergeantsville, NJ. “The Cheap Seats with Scott Stanchak” became an instant hit on the airwaves as he took listeners inside all the major and minor league sports teams in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The station reaches over 4 million people and is home to over 500,000 listeners.

The show also has had several great interviews in which Scott was able to talk with Allen Iverson, Sparky Lyle, Joe Torre and many more. Other station firsts that he initiated were a live 2005 Patriots’ preview, which included player interviews, insight and contests. He also broadcasted the first-ever game on the station, doing play-by-play on Opening Day, April 28, 2005 as the Patriots took on the Lancaster Barnstormers, who were also playing in their debut contest.

In February of 2005, “The Scott Stanchak TV Reality” was picked up by Patriot8, a central-Jersey cable station, and aired the entire nine-episode second season throughout 80,000 households in 31 communities.

Prior to the Summer of 2005, Scott began writing weekly humor columns for The Hunterdon Voice newspaper, which had a circulation of over 25,000. The paper also used Scott as a weekly National Football League picks expert and advice columnist. The paper, however, ceased operation at the end of November. Nevertheless, the exposure given to him through it was unbelievable because his pieces were general interest.

Then, in October of 2005, his TV show was picked up by Cablevision, one of the largest cable outfitters in all of New Jersey, to air on their Bergen network. In the coveted 11:30 p.m. timeslot, Stanchak’s talk show was up against some of the greats – Jay Leno and David Letterman. Cablevision Bergen reaches nearly a half of a million viewers.

Scott continues to write for the Democrat and has had the opportunity to interview some great people – Martin Brodeur, Rickey Henderson, Derek Jeter, Mankind (WWE), Eli Manning, Donald Trump and many more. He’s also a columnist for the Hunterdon County Baseball newspaper, as well a contributor to several other publications, including Baseball America, with information on the Yankees’ farm system.

Over the past few years he’s also made appearances on ABC Family, FOX, and MTV2, among others. He’s now looking to expand on what he’s already done by working harder to become a bigger player in the entertainment industry of on-air hosting for television or radio, as well as continuing to write.
